Asia now world's leading chemical-producing region

The European Chemical Industry Council reports that Asia, with sales of about $876 billion in 2007, has taken over as the world's leading chemical-producing region. The rise of China and India helped push Asia to the top. Europe's share of the global chemical industry market dropped 2.7 percentage points between 1997 and 2007; during the same period, Asia's share grew by 9.1 points.
