Iowa proposes legislation to allow cities to regulate fertilizer

Iowa lawmakers have proposed statewide legislation that would allow cities to regulate lawn fertilizers. The city of Ames would like to regulate phosphorous fertilizers to prevent runoff into a nearby lake. "The City Council would have to be very careful in crafting any city ordinance to balance the desire of residents to have nice-looking lawns with the public health and safety," said state Sen. Herman Quirmbach, who introduced the bill.
