Southwest, Boston Logan evolve together

As Boston Logan International Airport tries to shed its reputation as an expensive, inconvenient travel hub, it has found an ally in Southwest Airlines, a carrier seeking to update its image as a leisure-oriented discounter serving distant airports. The conclusion of the chaotic Big Dig highway project helped Logan, as did $4.4 billion in airport improvements. As the airport evolved, Southwest officials reportedly began conducting scouting missions to determine whether to begin operating at Logan, testing drive times, security lines and even the accessibility of airport concessions.
