Cristeta Comerford, the executive chef at the White House, created a five-course "quintessentially American" state dinner honoring China's President Hu Jintao by first reviewing available ingredients, then fine-tuning the recipes during her hourlong commute. The menu included orange-glazed carrots with black trumpet mushrooms, poached Maine lobster and dry-aged rib eye.
