Best Buy, eBay heads warn carriers to open nets, change pay plans

Best Buy and eBay offered similar messages to telecoms Monday: Offer pricing plans that are simpler and more affordable, and allow subscribers to freely switch between carriers on the same handsets. Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn and eBay's John Donahoe warned that in a world of highly connected devices, operators must take these steps to encourage users to consume new services such as mobile payments. "There's a limit to the number of $15 monthly fees someone can pay. And customers don't think in megabytes. Carriers need to get to a place sooner rather than later where the plans offered are more reflective of how devices are actually used," Dunn said.
