Oregon neighborhood reduces wildfire danger

Residents of the Rimrock West community in Bend, Ore., knew they had to make a change when they discovered their lawns and the surrounding forest area were creating a high-risk situation for wildfires. The community followed free tips from Firewise Communities USA to improve landscapes by increasing yard maintenance and modifying their homes to reduce their vulnerability to a wildfire. "Ninety-one percent of Rimrock West properties now meet Firewise standards," said Stephen Clark, president of the Rimrock Homeowners Association.
