Wider aisle seats could lead to fatter profits for airlines

Plane maker Airbus is tinkering with the idea of narrowing the center and window seats on some aircraft but widening the aisle seat, which could then be sold at a premium rate to the larger traveler. "It offers airlines a unique way to increase ancillary revenue, it's unique to the A320 cabin and it certainly would be the most comfortable economy-class seat offered on any current airplane," said Simon Pickup, director of business operations for Airbus Americas.
