Consumers need help on property insurance, N.Y. regulator says

Hurricane Sandy underscored the need for New York consumers to have an understanding of their property insurance coverage, says Benjamin Lawsky, superintendent of the state Department of Financial Services. The department plays an education role, but agents must help clients understand the policies they buy, Lawsky said. "We need to have a very serious discussion ... about what we can do to make policies, especially homeowners policies, a little more uniform and a little bit easier to understand," Lawsky said.
