Android app tries to prevent distracted user accidents

One Llama has developed an Android smartphone application called Audio Aware, which is meant to help users avoid accidents when distracted by their phones. The app employs the phone's microphone to listen for tell-tale noises, such as sirens from emergency vehicles, and will pause music being played on the handset and alert the user to a potentially dangerous situation. The technology was originally developed at the University of Illinois. The app will be available next month.
