Grocery delis get more popular, and pricey

The high cost of food at upscale delis and prepared food counters at grocers such as Whole Foods and Metropolitan Market is mainly due to the cost of staffing the section, an analyst says. According to a food industry group, deli sales in supermarkets hit $21.1 billion in 2005, up from $16.3 billion in 2000.
