API taps key organizer to head grass-roots activism arm

The American Petroleum Institute has hired Deryck Spooner, one of the environmental community's key grass-roots organizers, to head its grass-roots activism segment. This comes as API President Jack Gerard seeks to improve the group's grass-roots campaigns. "Jack's vision is to mobilize the 9.2 million people whose jobs rely on the oil-and-gas industry," API spokeswoman Cathy Landry said.
