FEMA has no data to prove defects in Illinois' suburban St. Louis levees

The Federal Emergency Management Agency in response to a request by Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Illinois, said it does not have the information to determine whether the levee system in the St. Louis region can protect the American Bottoms flood plain from severe flooding. But the agency has already issued new flood maps as it claimed that the structures were inadequate to provide flood protection for 150,000 homes and businesses in the region.
