Student with autism overcomes odds to become standout pupil

An 18-year-old senior with autism is excelling at Indianapolis' Manual High School, which has a 44% graduation rate and significant attendance problems. Raymond Rutland never misses a class and is known as a hard worker, intelligent and friendly among his teachers. Because of his dedication and the support of special-education teachers and staff who have worked to help him attend mainstream classes, Rutland has achieved a 3.7 grade-point average and plans to attend college in the fall.
