Cisco's small-cell Wi-Fi gateway gains carrier support

Cisco Systems has earned support from eight carriers -- including AT&T -- that have deployed or are testing the vendor's new Wi-Fi hot spot platform designed to help operators deal with the increasing data loads on their networks. The solution is based on Wireless Broadband Alliance-supported technologies and the Wi-Fi Alliance's Hotspot 2.0 standard, Cisco says. The company also has released its Small Cell Gateway, which is designed to help carriers manage their licensed (cellular) and unlicensed (Wi-Fi and femtocell) networks.
