Detergent-makers turn to innovation in tough economic times

Laundry-detergent manufacturers can overcome difficult economic conditions by innovating with new product forms and ingredients, industry executives say. Procter & Gamble and Sun Products have each unveiled single-dose laundry detergents. Also, Dow Chemical has introduced an acrylic terpolymer antigraying additive designed to work in liquids, and Evonik Industries is introducing a new ester quat for fabric softeners that can be formulated at room temperature.
