Researchers get a leg up on male pattern baldness

Researchers successfully restored patients' receding hairlines by transplanting leg-hair follicles into the scalp, according to a study published in Archives of Dermatology. About 75% to 80% of the leg-hair follicles grew fully within nine months, says study leader Sanusi Umar, an associate instructor of dermatology at the University of California, Los Angeles. The average procedure involves 1,500 to 1,800 follicles.
