Dairy farmers put on alert to prevent terrorism

Terrorists' plans could take aim at the U.S. economy and trust in government by introducing pathogens into human food, likely at processing facilities, or infecting livestock with an illness that could cripple the industry, such as foot-and-mouth disease, according to FBI Special Agent Rich Baltzersen, who spoke at the 2013 Oregon Dairy Farmers Annual Convention. Farmers who notice strange activity should alert the FBI, Baltzersen said. "Be more vigilant," he said. "Part of their planning is to probe our defenses."
