Methanol producer to construct $1.3 billion La. facility

South Louisiana Methanol is expected to spend $1.3 billion to build a methanol-production plant in Louisiana that could supply regional chemical plants. "The conversion of natural gas to methanol offers natural gas producers an alternative avenue to LNG [liquefied natural gas], enabling the creation of products which are consumed at home on a long-term basis," said CEO Barry Williamson.
