IRIS reform welcome but areas for improvement remain, ACC says

The American Chemistry Council supports the Environmental Protection Agency's proposed revisions to the Integrated Risk Information System, but it says there are areas that still need improvement. EPA has a "long way to go in transparency regarding criteria for study quality, criteria for weight-of-evidence integration and criteria used to judge quality of specific studies," said ACC senior director Nancy Beck. ACC senior toxicologist Rick Becker suggested the EPA share its risk-assessment questions and approaches with industry before its bimonthly stakeholder meetings to allow better discussion.
