N.Y. agency questions Prudential's statutory reserves

New York's Department of Financial Services has notified Prudential Financial that it may not be holding sufficient reserves to back the variable annuities it has sold to consumers. "We are currently in discussions with the [department] regarding the proper level of statutory reserves," Prudential said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
