Missouri River flooding cost $1B in 4 states last year

Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska experienced losses totaling more than $1 billion from catastrophic Missouri River flooding last year, according to the Army Corps of Engineers. The six major dams upstream, however, helped prevent $7.6 billion of damage, said Erik Blechinger of the Corps of Engineers. "Without the reservoirs, the damages experienced in 2011 would have been far, far worse,” Blechinger said.
