Ocean exploration ship heads to mapping mission in Gulf of Mexico

An ocean-mapping ship is headed for the Gulf of Mexico to gather information about an area near a 2010 oil spill there. The ship, called the Okeanos Explorer, is "the only federal ship that is designed specifically to explore the ocean," said Fred Gorell of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Only about one-twentieth of the ocean floor has been charted, according to the NOAA.
