Texas Board of Education OKs two-year certification proposal

Despite opposition from Texas teacher organizations, the State Board of Education voted last Friday to create an "instant" teaching certificate aimed at alleviating teacher shortages. The plan permits college graduates to be certified for two years to teach in grades eight through 12 if they pass a state test and hold a degree related to the subject they would teach.
