Mississippi extends filing deadline

Mississippi homeowners affected by Hurricane Katrina will have more time to file claims with their insurance companies, thanks to State Insurance Commissioner George Dale's suspension of the 180-day submission deadline. Dale encouraged residents to file with haste, but said the move was designed to give property owners more time to alert insurers to damages, complete mediation, seek settlements and finalize repairs.
