Time to increase our dependency on rail

The Southern Environmental Law Center is urging the Obama administration to allocate more funds to improve southern rail corridors, particularly along Interstate 81, where lawmakers are considering adding four lanes to alleviate truck traffic. The move should be encouraged, according to this editorial, which notes that expanding the national freight-rail network and building more high-speed lines could lead to a more reliable transportation system that would ease congestion as well as tailpipe emissions and sprawl.
