LaHood will urge cargo carriers to adopt pilot-fatigue rules

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood will meet with executives from two leading U.S. cargo carriers to encourage them to adopt pilot-fatigue rules. New work-hour restrictions apply only to passenger airlines but not to freight carriers such as United Parcel Service Inc. and FedEx Corp. "I hope they'll voluntarily adopt our guidelines," LaHood said. The UPS believes "the rule shouldn't be applied to cargo flights because the company operates so differently from passenger carriers," this feature says.
