U.S. is expected to remain a leader as shale goes global

Shale natural gas has progressed from a potential resource to one that has a myriad of possible applications and is leading to intense foreign interest in the U.S., panelists said at the ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit. While environmental practices remain an area of focus, safety "doesn't take technological breakthroughs. ... It takes sound operational practices" that the industry will meet, said Russell Ford of Shell.
