Western-built jets show record safety performance in 2012, IATA says

In 2012, the accident rate for Western-built jets totaled .20, or one hull loss per 5 million flights. "The industry’s 2012 record safety performance was the best in history," International Air Transport Association Director General and CEO Tony Tyler said in a statement. "Each day approximately 100,000 flights arrive safely at their destination."
