DuPont, Monsanto announce moves in biotech seed sector

Monsanto and DuPont's subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred are stepping up their competition in the business of biotech seeds, with both companies announcing major actions on consecutive days. Pioneer Hi-Bred will begin selling its own brand of herbicide-resistant corn and soybean seeds in 2009 to expand its role in the seed and weedkiller market. Separately, Monsanto said it has bought two regional seed-dealing companies for a total of $8.7 million.
