Hariri trial opens in the Hague

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon opened with prosecutor Daniel Bellemare pledging an impartial investigation that would start with a call for Lebanese authorities to turn over four allegedly pro-Syrian generals accused of orchestrating the assassination Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 2005. Suspects in the case will be detained in the Hague with war criminals Radovan Karadzic, former Bosnian Serb leader, and former Liberian President Charles Taylor.
