Schumer seeks $100M to convert NYC post office into transit hub

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., is seeking $100 million in federal stimulus funds to convert the James A. Farley Post Office in New York into a transit hub. Schumer says the project would expand the city's transportation infrastructure, relieve congestion at Pennsylvania Station, and put thousands of people to work. Schumer is also asking the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to to invest $1 billion in the project. "This is just what was envisioned by the stimulus: shovel-ready projects that generate a lot of jobs," said Schumer.
