Study: Vitamin B12 can prevent major birth defects

Researchers found vitamin B12 deficiency among pregnant women increases the risk of neural tube defects, making it a risk factor independent of folic acid. The study showed women with the lowest vitamin B12 levels were five times more likely to have an infant with a neural tube defect than women with the highest levels.
