Catholic Charities seeks to avoid same-sex benefits

Catholic Charities is changing its health coverage and won't offer benefits to spouses of current or new workers who aren't already enrolled in its plan. The move comes as same-sex marriage becomes legal in the District of Columbia in two days. The change lets the organization "comply with the city's new requirements and remain faithful to the church's teaching," says Edward J. Orzechowski, the charity's president.
