Estate tax is becoming a political liability for lawmakers

Congressional staffers are fielding angry calls from constituents who are upset about lawmaker inaction on extending the estate tax. "We understand as we get closer to the election there will be pressure on various members of the House and Senate" to address the estate tax, said Dick Patten, executive director of the American Family Business Institute. The group supports a permanent repeal of the federal estate tax, which expired for one year on Jan. 1.
