Lockeed Martin shows off breakthrough composite heat shield

Lockheed Martin hailed its Orion heat shield as a breakthrough development on Monday. The 16.4-foot-diameter heat shield -- described as a high-temperature, composite "resin system" -- was designed as a less expensive replacement to Orion's original titanium heat shield.
