Sales soar during Chinese New Year

China's retail sales reached CNY340 billion during the "golden week" of Spring Festival 2010. That's a 17.2% increase over the same period last year, according to statistics from China's Ministry of Commerce. Sales of food by China's major retailers grew 16.5% year on year, and sales of liquor and tobacco were up 13.2% during the Chinese New Year holiday.
