Texas charters founded by Turkish scholars focus on math, science

A charter-school system in Texas that started after a group of Turkish scholars became concerned over American students' failure to grasp math and science fundamentals is expanding its reach. Harmony Science Academy, run by the Houston-based nonprofit Cosmos Foundation, has increased its enrollment this year from 7,520 to 12,000 on 25 campuses. The diverse, top-performing K-12 schools focus on science and math, hire teachers from the U.S., Turkey and other foreign countries.
