Fla. legislature agrees on education-spending plan

Legislators in Florida's state House and Senate agreed Thursday on a $12.8 billion funding plan for education. The deal includes $300 million in funding for extended-learning programs at 100 low-performing elementary schools, with half of those funds allocated specifically to reading instruction. School districts, however, said the new funding would not be enough to offset ongoing budget cuts.
