Health care professionals may stop giving antibiotics for every earache

Two leading medical groups may recommend in the coming months that providers become more particular about treating childhood earaches with antibiotics, saving the treatment for only the most serious ear infections. Most minor ear infections clear up in a few days, the groups said, while cutting back on the 10 million antibiotic prescriptions for affected youngsters every year also would help in reducing antibiotic overuse.
