Former high school English teacher and president of the California Federation of Teachers Maurice Englander says Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger needs to understand teachers' perspectives about their jobs before he considers changing the education system. Among his tips, Englander explains that curriculum and tests are just "the maps" -- only teachers can be trusted to select the destination and steer students to it.
