Cities emphasize importance of waterways

As part of a $1 billion plan to revitalize the city's downtown, Dallas is focusing its efforts on redeveloping the Trinity River waterfront. Other Western cities are following suit, seeking to revive dirty, polluted or unsightly waterways, even in the face of political and environmental opposition. Houston has an $800 million plan to restore Buffalo Bayou, and a $3 million master plan has been devised to beautify about 32 miles of the Los Angeles River.
