Declines will persist for nonresidential construction spending

Declines in nonresidential public construction spending are expected to worsen this spring until the industry begins to feel the benefits of the economic-stimulus package, industry observers say. Construction spending has fallen 5% for nonresidential buildings since September 2008. Meanwhile, private nonresidential construction spending is not expected to feel the benefits of the stimulus package until the summer.
