Compromise seen as possible after mass teacher firing in Rhode Island

A Rhode Island school superintendent and leaders from a teachers union have agreed to restart talks a week after every faculty member at a poor-performing high school was fired. The Central Falls Teachers Union said its teachers would accept some of the reforms the superintendent sought, a move that could save the 93 jobs. The progress came as the head of the Rhode Island branch of the American Federation of Teachers met with the state's congressional delegation to seek their intervention.
