Study reveals canine breeds most predisposed to periodontal disease

The toy poodle and Yorkshire terrier are among the top 10 dog breeds most susceptible to periodontal disease -- the most prevalent health condition affecting dogs and cats worldwide, according to a study by Banfield's Applied Research and Knowledge team. "All breeds need regular professional cleanings, but with regard to the top breeds at risk, professional dental cleanings and compliance with at-home care of the health of teeth and gums is especially crucial," a Banfield executive said.
