Employees who are worried about their jobs during a recession say they're afraid to miss work even if they're sick, so they labor from home. Those who are self-employed or work for small companies often feel under the most pressure. "Even when I had swine flu I checked e-mail at least once or twice a day -- and I was so sick I could barely shower," says one self-employed worker.
