Working to avoid electronic distractions

The average office worker checks e-mail 50 times and uses instant messaging 77 times each day, according to a study by RescueTime. With e-mail volume increasing 66% a year, the problem is likely to get worse before it gets better, experts argue. To boost productivity and concentration, some companies are trying tactics such as instituting mandatory alone time and banning e-mail use on Fridays.
