Are mastectomy patients properly informed of reconstruction options?

In a study of 84 early-stage breast cancer survivors from four university medical centers, 37.9% of questions designed to measure knowledge about breast reconstruction facts and options were answered correctly. The authors concluded that mastectomy patients are not well-informed about breast reconstruction options and "would benefit from interventions to support their decision making." The study was reported in the January issue of the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
