Frozen-yogurt chains have been rapidly multiplying in markets across the country and spurring the development of new chains including Pinkberry and Red Mango, but sales dropped 15% last year and industry experts are beginning to wonder about the sustainability of the trend. An earlier boom began with the strong launch of TCBY in the 1980s, which hit unexpected and intense competition when full-service restaurants began selling the treat and it was suddenly available everywhere.
