Congress works to prevent March 27 government shutdown

Congressional leaders are optimistic that a deal can be reached to avert a shutdown that would occur March 27, when the government's funding authorization expires. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said he was "hopeful that the House and Senate will be able to work through this." There are no signs that lawmakers will make any effort to modify or undo across-the-board spending cuts that took effect Friday.
