Basel III may undermine the post-recession fascination with cash as banks begin posting interest rates for tier-one capital and longer-term deposits that offer much more than short-term deposit rates, writes Andrew Inwood, founder of CoreData Research. This poses a challenge for banks, as they will need to alter their product mix and build alternative asset streams as depositors make the switch.
